Jodi Lea Stewart’s The Bulls of Bashan is a historical fiction that is also equal parts mystery and adventure. It takes place in 1953 in a Texas border town. It’s there where a young waitress, Savannah, finds herself in quite an adventure through various international locations, such as a rainforest, canyons, open seas, war-torn places. It’s during these adventures where each of the characters we meet have to explore their growth and emotions with themselves and each other.
The Bulls of Bashan is a well-researched historical fiction and definitely has detailed descriptions of each of the places that Savannah finds herself in. Stewart’s story was entertaining and packed full of action. I also truly love the idea of the “found family” dynamic in stories, and this was definitely present in The Bulls of Bashan. Savannah herself is a strong character and her story is engaging and had me flipping the pages.
Lovers of adventure and coming-of-age stories will truly enjoy this book.
