Canyon of Deceit by DiAnn Mills is an enthralling high-stakes romantic suspense novel. The story centers around wilderness expert Therese Palmer who has been hired by a someone she used to work with, Professor Ivanov, to help in finding his daughter Alina who has gone missing. But as with any mystery/suspense novel, there is definitely more to the story than meets the eye.

To assist in the case, which the Professor does not want to involve the police, Therese asks for Texas Ranger Blane Gardner to join her in trying to find Alina. Blane has a special set of skills in crisis negotiation and it doesn’t hurt that Therese and Blane have a history (and a romantic spark).

As the story unfolds, we learn just how many layers there are to this web of stories and lies. The story is gripping and fast-paced as we follow Therese and Blane in their navigation of this dangerous territory - both physically and emotionally. There is a backdrop of the Christian faith as this is a Christian contemporary novel. I personally do not seek out Christian fiction as I am not religious, however, I was able to appreciate the suspenseful story and its underlying themes of resilience and courage.

If you’re looking for well-rounded characters in a suspenseful page-turner, and don’t mind the mentioning of the Christian faith, I would definitely seek out this book. It was truly an interesting read.
