The Frequency by Randall D. St. Claire is a mystery-thriller with elements of adventure and sci-fi. Bronx Rousselle is a former professional hockey player and now owns a pawnshop along the Canadian border. He is a solitary individual who is pretty cynical and does not like to get close to anyone. All that changes when a customer brings him some documents and items connected to the Arctic. This leads Bronx into a rabbit hole of events that lead him to try and uncover why multiple people and groups are willing to murder for the information within these documents.
I found The Frequency to be full of adventure, but with a layer of the bone-deep human pursuit of truth and the need for connection. The reader goes nto this expecting a thriller, and you do indeed get that, but you also get a more thought-provoking storyline. St. Claire’s writing is cinematic and easy to get lost in.
Readers will enjoy this fast-paced mystery full of action and suspense. The historical secrets were also really interesting to read about - it gave me the same vibe as if somewhere were to combine National Treasure with The X-Files. Definitely read this one when you are craving a thriller with an archaelogical mystery backdrop.
