There are different stories that are divided into seven categories, which are Disaster Response, Health/Caregiving, Education, Civic Duty, Cultural Preservation, Advocacy, and Everyday Generosity. Through these different areas, we are able to see the emphasis that Nouvel puts on the idea that valor can be a quiet state of being and doing; this emphasizes the improtance of showing up when no one is looking.
I enjoyed the direct and thoughtful writing of Quiet Valor. It is a subject that could very easily be turned into something that is overly sentimental, but Nouvel is able to process this information to us in a very well-sourced and logical way. The importance of community and how the actions of “regular” people are what forms these communities was also very lovely to read.
I think that this installment of Quiet Valor has come at a very important time in our country. In a world of performative action, it is important to remember the need for a quiet bravery that some of our communities practice every day.
