As Maddie experiments with their ghostly gifts, she learns that each superpower is unique and can't be borrowed. Still, she holds close a passion that fills her days with whimsy and warmth, a secret hobby that brings back precious memories of time spent with her mom. Through her journey, Maddie uncovers not only her true talent but also reminds her ghostly family that the most magical gifts come from the heart.

Maddie - A Little Ghost with a Secret by Cindy J. Vanous is a beautiful picture book about a friendly ghost named Maddie who lives in an enchanting ghost town in Terlingua, Texas. Maddie and other ghosts in town all have these ghostly superpowers, like making butterflies just appear and dance. Maddie, however, is feeling pretty ordinary and is thinking maybe she doesn’t have her own superpowers. Maddie goes on a journey of self-discovery…only to figure out that the answer was with her all along.

I found Maddie to be a lovely story for younger readers as it focuses on a lot of positive messages to help in their personal growth. The entirety of the story is focused on Maddie finding out what makes her special and different through the journey of self-discovery. She looks inward for her answers instead of having to look at everyone else. Maddie also celebrates the importance of connection and family, as well as the importance of remaining hopeful.

Maddie is a beautiful story that would be a perfect gift for your younger readers - a tool in cultivating that adventurous and confident spirit for children.
