The dialogue between Covey and JayJay was quite entertaining and I found myself missing their repartee once the story was finished. I found JayJay's insight to be so important to the story as she symbolizes that racial history observation for the reader. I am quite a character-driven kind of reader, so characters are deeply important to how much I care about a book. I was so satisfied with Covey and JayJay and the tone Williams gave them both to keep his story moving forward. The plot itself was fast-paced and had plenty of twists to keep the story fresh and entertaining.
Something that I think is notable to mention, especially for rigid completists like myself, is that it is not necessary to start with book one of the mystery series in order to enjoy Covey and JayJay. Do not get me wrong, I need to find myself a copy of the first story and I encourage all readers who are interested to do the same. However, for the sake of availability and opportunity, it is absolutely wonderful to be able to dip in a series out of order and still be able to enjoy it.
