Nightmares & Iced Coffee: My Summer Reading Plans
I know I’m not alone when I say - it’s basically spooky in my mind all year round. However, there are certain times where I feel the MOST spooky: October (of course) and during the sweltering heat of summer. I don’t think this is a “just me” thing, but I can tell you why it is a thing for me. I have memories of not being in school during the summer when I was a kid and in attempting to keep me entertained during the summer, my mom would take me to thrift stores to shop for books. Now, you may ask, why not go to the library? Well, my mom does not speak English and didn’t know how to use the library. That was something I did on my own later on in life. So, thrift stores, back when books were basically under a dollar - at the most under two dollars, were my savior during those lonely summer days (I didn’t spend a lot of time with other kids during those vacation months). I’d come back home with a stack of books that I am pretty sure were way beyond my years at the time (Stephen King, anyone?).
So, summer days mean horror horror horror in my household. I’m sure my TBR will be ever-growing, as it usually is, but this is what I hope to read this summer:
Welcome to Camp Nightmare - R.L. Stine
The Saturday Night Ghost Club - Craig Davidson
The Elementals - Michael McDowell
The Campfire Collection - R.L. Stine
You’re Not Supposed to Die Tonight - Kalynn Bayron
The Final Girl Support Group - Grady Hendrix
The Ruins - Scott Smith [not pictured]
The Troop - Nick Cutter [not pictured]
Jaws - Peter Benchley [not pictured]
Beach House - R.L. Stine [not pictured]
The Last Time I Lied - Riley Sager [not pictured]
The Counselors - Jessica Goodman [checking it out from the library]
Camp Damascus - Chuck Tingle [checking it out from the library]
Ghoul - Brian Keene [eBook]
I would love to get through each of these, but we’ll check back toward the end of summer to see how I did. I also want to do a romance summer reading tbr, but that’s another story for a another time. Tell me if you’ve read and liked any of these books and/or what you plan on reading this season.
Until next time,
