I jumped at the chance to review this zine anthology as I have been a fan of Celia's I Dreamed I Was Assertive zine (plus - we share a name which is pretty awesome). I am so happy to have a collection of her work - so real and honest and immersed in nostalgia and beauty. In it are memories childhood and adulthood that are very much hers. It is a perspective only Celia herself could give us, not just because she is a person of color, but because it shows her individuality. That is what I love so much about zines - it is a point of view that the reader wouldn't get anywhere else because it is truth. There is no sugar coating and fiction, there is only the human experience. I truly recommend this collection and to check out anything Celia may create in the future as I am sure that we will only be left wanting more.

About the Author
Celia C. Pérez was born in Judy Blume’s hometown to a father from Cuba and a mother from Mexico. When she was fourteen, she was certain her future was in professional wrestling. Instead, she grew up to be a librarian and a writer. She is working on a middle grade novel. While she has listened to many versions of “La Bamba,” her favorite is still the one by Los Lobos. She lives in Chicago.
